Reviews

This is not my normal reading material but I fancied a change. I am so glad as I found the humour, warmth and vividness of the poetry refreshing. My personal favourite “Finger Tips pointing to the moon”.

The title of Anthony Boniface’s ‘The Call of the Kokako; Poems from Far-flung Places’ is well chosen, because it directs us to the heart of his vision of nature. Wordsworth said ‘poetry takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity’: many of these poems skilfully use a variety of verse forms to convey the poet’s recollections of his delight in the natural world.

What a pleasant surprise when I opened this book! From its subtitle I had expected poems about birds, animals and plants from various parts of the world. It certainly is that, but very much more.
