⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a truly lovely read that feels gentle, warm, and full of charm… You follow Harry, a boy with a passion for fishing, the story takes us to his favourite spot beside a crystal clear stream. The storytelling is whimsical and engaging, and it genuinely reminded me of books from when I was young.  The delicate watercolour illustrations beautifully complement the text, making the natural setting feel magical without being overstated.  This book gently encourages early primary school children to enjoy the outdoors and develop curiosity about nature, making it an especially perfect choice if you have a fish mad child, who loves adventure, wildlife, and the simple joy of being by the water. Really just a lovely book.

‘The Boy and The Trout’ is a lovely, gentle story, about a boy’s day fishing for trout.  The story is nicely written, and is relaxing to read and to listen to.  The simple, muted illustrations also have a calming effect.   There’s a lot to learn from this book too, as it has labelled pictures of different wildlife throughout – perfect for nature lover’s like my son. Overall this is a charming little book – a nice read for winding down at bedtime.

⭐⭐⭐

Great if you are really into fishing. This book has the most beautiful calming pastel illustrations but it was quite hard for my girls to read as they haven’t been exposed to fishing in any sense so they didn’t know the different types of fish named in the book. We took this as a learning experience but if you have a kid into this sort of thing they will absolutely love it.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My children loved this book particularly my little boy who adores anything linked with nature. It was educational whilst also being relatable via the light-hearted story.  It made them understand what happens when grandad goes fishing and they were keen to show him this book and listen to his stories too.  A beautiful little book with accurate illustrations.

Ava liked the drawings. We liked the annotated drawings showing us the names of different creatures.  We loved the dreamy pace of the book  – it really does capture a golden afternoon.  Really lovely!!!

⭐⭐⭐

This book is definitely for children interested in nature, fishing and the outdoors. It provides extensive vocabulary in relation to fish, nature, streams, etc. The images are soft and beautiful. Unfortunately it wasn’t a big hit with my daughter as she usually prefers more vibrant colourful images in books, but let’s see, we’ll give it another try in a few weeks.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This book is beautiful, the pictures are really wonderful, the story was a bit basic for me (I’m 9) but it was still an interesting read, I can see that this book would be suitable for a younger age group, however the pictures are so lovely it makes me think of warm summer days.

⭐⭐⭐

A small delightfully illustrated book about Harry, who has a passion for fishing.  The descriptive words are fabulously colourful allowing a young reader to imagine a crystal-clear chalk stream where kingfishers dart and minnows abound and equate the story to the beautiful illustrations. Harry’s quest to catch a trout turns into a small adventure, involving meeting lots of animals and other wildlife on the way. A story book for young children which is illustrated with delicate water colours with an aim of encouraging early primary school kids to follow Harry’s lead and go fishing whilst meanwhile enjoying the outdoors.  It worked its magic on our little grandson who has added a fishing rod with reel to his wish list for Christmas so that he can dispense with his imaginary one.
